Webby’s Gala Opening Sequence 2008 from Rob Chiu on Vimeo.

During a one month stay in New York I directed the Webbys Gala Intro Sequence for Digital Kitchen. As part of a larger package completed by DK for the Webbys awards show, this is the final “Director’s Cut” version complete with Hecq soundtrack. Shot over a day around Manhattan and Brooklyn with a low key crew the sequence was then edited by myself in New York before being sent to DK’s Chicago office to add the graphics and then sent back to me in London for final grading and editing duties!

Credits: Rob Chiu, Rama Allen, Hecq, Gene Park, Frank Donnangelo, Anthony Vitagliano, Nick Campbell, Jason Esser, Peter Kallstrom, Mike Alfini, Erica Rangel, Abbe Daniel, Andrea Biderman, Josh Hartsoe, Julie Rutigliano, Chris Caiati.

OFFF New York Titles from Rob Chiu on Vimeo.

Directed by Rob Chiu & Chris Hewitt for the OFFF Design conference title sequence in New York 2007. Music by Hecq. Edited by Rob Chiu.

Invited by OFFF to both speak at the conference in NYC and create the title sequence for the event, the entire sequence was shot on HD DV over a period of 3 days in Manhattan and Brooklyn to create the basis for the sequence. Edited in Final Cut and graded and post production completed in After Effects the sequence is a fast montage of New York from a New Yorkers perspective.

Maybe one Morning

my reel inspired by a Eugenio Montale’s poem
“Forse un mattino”

“Maybe one morning, walking in dry, glassy air,
I’ll turn, and see the miracle occur:
nothing at my back, the void
behind me, with a drunkard’s terror.

then, as if on a screen, trees houses hills
will suddenly collect for the usual illusion.
But it will be too late; and I’ll walk on silent
among the men who don’t look back, with my secret.”

vertical from sebastian lopez on Vimeo.

This is what i achieved after 20 exhausting hours of shooting on a green screen stage in Buenos Aires, in a single day. No budget at all; just me and some friends.
I composited, did the FX and everything else later on After Effects. My good friend Colin Devlin along with Brian Byrne created the amazing soundtrack you’ll hear on it.
I’ll be hopefully posting a making of pretty soon.
